Fake Bomb Threats Rise Concerns On Mumbai Airport and Taj Hotel

Mumbai: Security forces were placed on high alert in Mumbai on Friday after authorities received a bomb threat email targeting two of the city's most high-profile locations: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. The threat cited the executions of Afzal Guru and Sevakku Shankar as its motive.

The email prompted an immediate and coordinated response from law enforcement agencies, with bomb squads and quick response teams dispatched to both locations. After thorough searches at the airport and the hotel, no suspicious devices or materials were found. The Mumbai airport police later confirmed that the threat was a hoax.

An FIR has been registered against the unidentified sender under relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, India’s updated criminal code. Authorities are working to trace the origin of the email and identify the person responsible.

Despite the false alarm, the incident raised concerns over airport and hotel security, especially in a city with a history of high-profile terror attacks. Both the airport and the Taj Hotel have remained sensitive locations since the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Officials urged the public not to panic and assured that standard operating procedures were followed to ensure safety. They emphasized that hoax threats not only waste public resources but also invite serious legal consequences.
